Sports 4 Life Athletics is proud to recognize two outstanding athletes who recently traveled to Columbus, Georgia, to compete in the UPNEXT Flag Football All-American Game, hosted by Big Face Sports.

Representing Sports 4 Life Athletics and the Bloomington-Normal community, these athletes earned the opportunity to compete alongside other talented flag football players while showcasing the hard work, dedication, and passion they bring to the game.

As local high schools prepare for their inaugural girls flag football seasons, it's exciting to see our athletes already competing at events like this. Their commitment to the sport continues to create new opportunities while inspiring the next generation of girls interested in flag football.

Sports 4 Life Athletics is excited to announce our 2026–27 Travel Team Tryouts !

We are looking for dedicated athletes who are ready to take their flag football skills to the next level through elite training, competitive opportunities, and tournament experiences.

Our travel program is designed for athletes who are committed to player development, teamwork, competition, and representing Sports 4 Life Athletics with pride both on and off the field.

Date: Saturday, August 16, 2026
Location: Northpoint School Park
2602 E. College Ave.
Bloomington, IL 61704

Player Check-In: 1:30 PM
Tryout Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Tryouts are FREE and open to athletes interested in competing during the 2026–27 travel season.

Teams We Are Recruiting For

What Travel Team Athletes Can Expect

Selected athletes will have the opportunity to:

Train with experienced coaches focused on skill development
Participate in competitive practices and workouts
Compete in local, regional, and national tournaments
Attend NFL FLAG tournaments and events
Participate in USA Football events and Talent ID opportunities
Develop position-specific skills
Improve speed, agility, and football IQ
Represent Sports 4 Life Athletics at a higher level of competition

Travel Team Expectations

Athletes selected for a Sports 4 Life Athletics Travel Team will be expected to:

Attend scheduled practices, workouts, and team activities
Participate in the Sports 4 Life Indoor Winter League or have participated in our 2026 season (minimum of five games)
Compete in scheduled tournaments during the 2026–27 season
Display commitment, coachability, teamwork, and sportsmanship

Submitting a registration form does not guarantee placement on a Sports 4 Life Athletics Travel Team. All athletes will be evaluated by our coaching staff based on effort, attitude, skill level, athletic ability, coachability, and overall team needs.

An unforgettable championship day crowned three division champions and celebrated an incredible Spring League season.

The inaugural 2026 S4LA Flag Bowl Championship brought together the top teams from each division for a day filled with competitive flag football, outstanding sportsmanship, and unforgettable moments. After weeks of hard work throughout the Spring League season, our athletes left everything on the field in pursuit of a championship.

The Philadelphia Eagles captured the 2026 S4LA Flag Bowl 9U Championship in one of the most exciting games of the day, defeating the Los Angeles Rams 21-20 in a thrilling finish.

The Buffalo Bills earned the title of Inaugural S4LA Flag Bowl 12U Champions , battling their way to a 30-27 championship victory over the Denver Broncos.

Join us on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 6:30 PM at The Corn Crib in Normal, Illinois, for a fun Superhero Night matchup as the CornBelters take on the Quincy Doggy Paddlers.

Group Night Details:
• Players receive FREE admission when wearing their jerseys

A parent’s guide to choosing the right version of the game

For many young athletes, flag football is an excellent introduction to the game before deciding whether to transition into tackle football. It allows players to develop fundamental skills—such as passing, catching, and route running—without the physical contact associated with tackling.

Flag football is also highly inclusive, creating opportunities for a wide range of athletes, including female players. In fact, women’s flag football continues to grow rapidly and is on track to become a sanctioned collegiate sport.

That said, many athletes still choose the tackle football path. While participation has seen slight declines in recent years, football remains the most popular sport among high school boys, with over one million participants nationwide. Some families even choose to have their children participate in both formats.

Every family’s situation is unique. The best approach is to consider your child’s interests, goals, and readiness, and choose the option that best supports their development and enjoyment of the game.

What’s the Difference?

The primary difference between flag football and tackle football is contact.

In flag football , there is no tackling. Instead, players wear flags attached to their waist, and defenders “stop” the play by pulling a flag. A play ends when the flag is removed, and a touchdown is scored when a player crosses the goal line with their flags still intact.

In tackle football , players stop the ball carrier through physical contact by bringing them to the ground.

Key Differences:

Number of Players
Flag football is typically played with fewer athletes on the field—most commonly 5-on-5 or 7-on-7. The field size is also smaller to match the team format.

Game Pace
Flag football is fast-paced with minimal stoppages. There are no kickoffs, fewer timeouts, and continuous action, making games shorter—often lasting around an hour or less.

Rules & Contact
To maintain a non-contact environment, flag football rules differ from tackle football. For example:

Quarterbacks typically cannot run the ball
Diving and blocking are not allowed
